Disney Wagons #1 (From Jerry Cash)

Buckles;

There was a question the other day about the Disney Wagons, so I thought I would pass this along to you.

Perhaps we don't give Walt Disney and his craftsmen enough credit for the existence of these wagons today. At that point in time, there wasn't a great deal of interest in old circus wagons. Considering their condition, who knows what might have happened to them. These are photos of the wagons as they arrived at the studio. As you can see, some are in fair shape , some pretty bad. The black and white bars in front are used as a measuring reference by the studio.

The Swan Bandwagon is missing some of its carvings. Using the Disney numbers, cage #6 requires chain x bracing to keep the body stable. One of the wheels has lost its rim and the others look like they are in bad shape. An indication of the amount of time and effort that went into restoring these .

Heidelberg Raceway - Last Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Show Under Canvas

Dear Sir,

The Borough of Heidelberg, PA, is in seek of your help to solicit funds for the erection of a state approved road side historical marker. About 2 months ago we formed a partnership with the local NASCAR members club in seek of our a proposal to our state historical and museum commission for consideration of a roadside historical marker for the former Heidelberg Raceway. The site is significant as its home to four NASCAR races, multiple national records, civil rights and the home of the final circus show of RB and B&B under the big top.

Last week I got in contact with Deborah Walk with the Ringling Museum in Florida. She was helpful with the needed information regarding this final act in July of 1956.

We are in seek of your support to see if you have any connections or if you knew of anyone who could help us raise the funds needed for the sign (approx. $2,500)?

Thanks again for your help and your efforts remembering the former Heidelberg Raceway.

Sincerely,

Joseph Kauer

Bob;
Some of these wagons came to California for the Ken Maynard Wild West Circus. They ended up at an amusement park on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles and were then aquired by Disney.
