TSA (From Eric Beheim)

TSA, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

With all the news about the “intrusive” TSA searches that are now being conducted at airports, it is interesting to note that something similar happened back in 1898, just prior to the start of the Spanish American War. While traveling home, two American women were searched by Spanish authorities on some pretext or other. (The search was conducted by women agents.) “Yellow journalist” William Randolph Hearst illustrated the story with this inflammatory drawing by Frederick Remington, causing much public outrage at the time. Today, it is just another travel-related inconvenience. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, and be safe!

There's this nagging little voice in the back of head wondering if enhanced security is about security at all... or is it just another way to prevent outside food and drinks from entering terminals where the concessions operators have a God Given Right to charge $7 for a soft drink?

Happy Thanksgiving to all in these United States.
