I was told his real name was Marshall Dillon, but when he came to the show in 1982 everyone called him Bucky. I put dibs on him the moment I saw him. He was 10 years old, and originally trained by Don McLennon. I rode him in spec/menage for nine years.
When I left Carson and Barnes in 1991, Mr. and Mrs. Miller gave him to me as a gift. We moved to Wyoming, and my brother often borrowed him to go hunting in the mountains, often through belly-deep rivers, and Buck packed out several elk over the years. My brother said he was "the best all-around horse he ever met". Well, of course- ol' Buck had seen it all!
Bucky died in Wyoming in 2004, at the ripe old age of 33. He was the best all-around horse I ever met, too.

The guy with the sunglasses and ballcap is Dave "Letterfly" Knoderer. My guess is these pixs were taken somewhere in Mich.
That's my boy Bucky!
