This is the neatest tail gate contraption I ever saw, painted in Tech's colors - -white and gold. It was on the Tech campus for the Duke contest on the 20th. Tim took the picture after the game. I'll swear, if we are not careful, these cell phone digital cameras will make the KODAK Brownie extinct. Note the girl getting a cold draft out of the spigot in the left side. On the right the owner has a huge flat screen TV attached to the side of the truck with an awing extending out so that sun light does not interfere with the image (the late afternoon Ohio State - Iowa game was on the tube). The folks up top are enjoying "refreshments." The guy who owned the engine told Tim that he bought it up north a couple of years ago - -Indiana I think. The "Dodd" slogan on the engine reminds me of a newspaper headline "IN DODD WE TRUST," when Bobby Dodd's Jackets pulled off a colossal upset (7 - 0) over Georgia in Athens in 1950 - -first time a Dodd team ever won from Wally Butt's Dogs over there. It was the 2nd of Dodd's 8 straight over the Dogs. What a far cry from now. In addition to Georgia, that 1950 Tech team beat Florida, Auburn, and LSU, but had a losing season They were crushed by Bama 54 - 19 and SMU 33 - 13 (with its great Kyle Rote - later NY Giants). Also Tech lost to VMI (good grief), Duke, South Carolina and KY. The KY loss (28 - 14) was expected as they, coached by Bear Bryant and led by QB Babe Parilli, were SEC champs and beat Bud Wilkinson's national champ OK in the Sugar Bowl. On the right of the photo is our grandson Richard 5th (age 8). He is holding a miniature football (in Tech colors) and is playing catch with his sisters (Ansley and Mary) and his 1st cousin Ashlyn (Tim's daughter) - -all of them 8 and 10 years old. We could enjoy such after the game because Tech won. Now another season winds to an end. This marked the 69th year since I first saw a Tech football game in person, that in 1942. RJR3rd |

Richard,
I too saw a Tech game, 12 years later at the Cotton Bowl in 1954.
That morning a car load of former High School class mates from Hot Springs pulled into the K-M winter quarters in Hugo armed with an extra ticket and off we went to Dallas.
It was special for us since several members of the Razorback squad were from our school.
No tailgating in those days but plenty of refreshments required to celebrate if we won or drown our sorrows should we lose.
Final score Tech 14 Arkansas 6, the latter was exercised.
I remember Bobby Dodd. We didn't like him much. An old U T man going over to the other side like that.
Richard, My Son-in-Law told me that he saw this truck at the Clemson - Ga Tech game this year. We sure needed it to put out the fire that South Carolina burned us with this past Saturday night ! It`s kinda tuff on us Clemson Guys living here in Columbia this week with all those Gamecocks crowing ! Watch out this weekend over there in Atlanta, those crazy Gamecock Fans are headed your way to play Auburn for the SEC Championship. Take Care, Hal Guyon
