This is a sad story. We were showing Harlengen, Texas on the Mexican border with Polack Bros. in 1965 when Gene showed showed up on the lot. He explained that a Mexican Show had purchased "Betty" from Tony Diano who then promoted Streamline (Francis Frizzel) to deliver her the border and while trying to unload her got downed and was sent to the hospital. The Mexicans backed off the deal and demanded their money back from Diano, to no avail. They decided to move the truck, still on the U.S. side, to a nearby Sale Barn and somehow managed to get her into the pen seen above. Circo Bells got word of this and sent Gene up to try to buy her but the bureaucracy involved tied things up. Gene and I spent some time cleaning out her pen and he bought some hay and grain for her but had return to his show. I later heard that she injured someone at the Sale Barn and was destroyed. |
