Cole Bros ZOEPPE FAMILY (c.1937) Three Sheet

From Chris Berry

Although the Zoeppe Family is perhaps best known for its riding act, this three-sheet was used to promote a ladder balancing act that the family performed in Ring 3 on the Cole Bros Circus in the late 1930s. Incidentally, the Zoeppe Riding Act was ALSO a part of Cole Bros during the late 30s - but the troupe was identified in the program as being "The Aurelia Family" - performing in the center ring (with the McCree and Hobson familes in Ring 1 and 3 respectively).

The Zoeppe AKA Zoppe's
How delightful,I must admit, this is the first time I have seen of this sheet, however there is no denying The name Aurelia is quite familiar to me.
PS.I do love this Blog.

It's interesting to me that they would go by Zoppe for the balancing act and by the other for the act for which they are best known. ~frank

The Zoppe/Zavatta troup :
One of the gals in the act went by the name of Aurelia. It was rumored she did the business and signed the contracts during this time period. She also did a ballerina/principal act one season and went by Rita-Aurelia.
PS.In regards to the show using the name Aurelia for the riding act; Could be she pulled a power play???LOL.
