Scan13237, originally uploaded by bucklesw1. From a set of well circulated pictures taken in Sarasota the winter of 1954-55, "Emily" seen at left. Later Baptiste Schreiber would arrive from Europe with three more bringing the herd to 55. In appearance it didn't rival the big herds of Walter McLain since most of these were small. The gentlemen in blue uniforms are Arky Scott, Smokey Jones, Hugo Schmitt and Louis Reed. On tour Smokey ran the department and Hugo presented the elephants in the ring.
