To Greg DeSanto

How about this car?
The driver was cleverly concealed in this big iron box.
Pictured are clowns Lee Virtue and Eddie Dullem.
It was so heavy an elephant had to push it up into the
wardrobe wagon each night.

Hi Buckles,

This a new one to me...but it sure looks like a good one. Eddie "Mother" Dullum is another greatly overlooked producing clown who worked all the time on many show (esp. Clyde Beatty Cole).

The big clown car acts include, Fay Alexander, Smiley Dailey, Hip Raymond, Jorge Rosele, Kent Tyler, The Barios, Rex Young, Vince Pagliano, Pat Cashin, Perky Perkins and Slivers Johnson.

Most of the "Jalopy" comedy cars

were operated from an enclosure

in the back seat or trunk area

I remember poor Rose Alexander

on some incredibly hot days

stuffed inside while Fay could

do all the clowning antics &

play to the unwashed crowd

Not to mention the one and only Jack Cook . . .

I almost forgot Arthur Ducheck doing a version with a piano that came to life and did many of the same bits as the car acts.

Let's not leave out the man who may have started it all, Buck Baker.

And we cannot leave out Ernie Wiswell or Joe Cook!
