Johnny Herriott told me that after the crowning of the "king of the beasts", the females would all break out into a roar. Maybe this is it. I do know that in 1954 Jacot's act had 11 female and 9 male lions and one tiger. Jules liked working with lions, especially males, but at different years had up to 3 tigers and for a brief time two brown bears and a polar bear in the act.

Jim,
21 animals in the cage??? How come there has never been a picture or movie of that. It is always 1-5 or 6. Is there a picture available out there somewhere and I missed it?

I too have never seen a photo of the whole cage that let me count how many animals were in the cage at one time. Could it be a situation like Pat Anthony's 1963 act with 17 animals. Everyone comes in, tiger ball roll, 6 tigers jump the fire hoop and leave. Also the arena was covered plus shade from the big sycamores in the area = not enough light for the photographer of the action for the film of the day?

J. M. Herriott and others that saw the act, what's the answer.

Jimmy,
What the hell kind of alibi is that!!!!! Your not the same guy who has been responsible for all the Thylacine sightings lately, are you? What are you sending out an SOS to John Milton for? You know as well as I do, what he is going say. "With all the big sycamores shading everything dark, it was hard to count. But I am sure there were about 130 lions in the cage. Give or take. I know for a fact, there weren't less then 125."

Mr. Burke, (as long as I'm going to jerk your chain.)
You'll have to admit that was an excellent reason why there aren't photos of a cage full of cats. I even gave a species of tree that reduced the available lumens of light. That's the kind of stuff that makes me such a valuable cast member sharing information with guests at Disney.

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy,
Your killing me here. I never knew Will Rogers, but as long as I have known you, I have gotten a pretty good idea of what it would have been like conversing with him. "available lumens of light!!!!" Brilliant, just brilliant. You even sloughed the usage of color film. LOL Since you have moved on to get your Doctorate at Dumbo University, I can't keep a head of you any more. But I have always learned something from you, and that makes you a valuable friend. It will aid me in explaining why there are no pictures of me and the 67 lion and tiger act I trained at Jungle Larry's African Safari in 1974. Although it was a covered arena, were light's under the roof, and that is usually where they catch me. Now armed with the knowledge that all those banana trees must have had one of those available lumens of light deals, I've got a pretty air tight alibi. I won't even have to use my pocket ace, and call John Milton.
