Lou Jacobs was probably on Pollack; Duane Thorpe had transitioned from the lead dancer of the firebirds (GSOE movie) to Clown Alley. Perhaps Jackie LeClaire can share some more memories of this era.
I'm surprised not to see Lou Jacobs listed among the clowns - we know that he was there for the '51 & '52 seasons when they were filming GSOE. Maybe Dolly or Pat Cashin can fill in the blanks. ~frank
Almost 40 Clowns - WOW! Most of us know Felix, Emmett and Otto - others that bring back a smile to my face include Paul Alpert (Prince Paul?), Jimmy Armstrong, Charlie Bell, Paul Jung, Louis Nagy, Frank (Frankie) Saluto - or 'Where's my g*d d****d rabbit?', Dennis Stevens, Duane Thorpe and Paul Wentzel! (Loved his walk around bit with the giant pocket watch!) ~frank
You're not kidding, Buckles. When I met Henry North, in 1968, he asked who all we had at Jungleland. I said, "One name you'll know--Arky Scott." He looked blank. "Who? Scott?" I said, "Yes, Arky Scott, your superintendent of elephants over here in the 50s." "No, no. Arky Scott. No, we never had him." I said, "He was in the DeMille picture--had lines, was spoken of by name." "Nope," North said with finality. "Not an Arky, or Scott on our elephants." I'm thinking how can this be--Henry Ringling North is denying Arky Scott? What the hell is going on here? I saw no point in pressing the matter, but this was my first real evidence that what Buckles says is right--when you're out on that thing, you're out. But why Arky?

Same as today, when you're out, you're out.

On Page 25, the elephant dept is listed and Eugene Scott is listed as
Super.
I believe it was Brenda Elliot
that became Brenda McClosky &
wasn't it Margaret (Maggie) Smith
that became the 2nd Mrs Concello
From the clown alley Manfred went
on to Doval fame & Alvin Schwartz
became the timekeeper (as 1 of the
Ali Babba tribe) & in retirement
operated the Venice North bridge
As a side note the South bridge
was later tended by Dick Brown
