There were also a few photos taken at the Sarasota Winter Quarters. (Once again, more information is needed as to who and what is being shown.) |

This book also featured a passing leap, with Dick Anderson catching, and Juan "Rodry" Rodriguez and Billy Ward flying. The two-page layout for the photo may present posting problems here. Dick said they went in alone, the boys set the net back up, the lighting was made right, and they performed the trick 7 times before the photographer was happy.
Discussing the angst surrounding this book, which I outlined yesterday, Dick related there was near mutiny with the other flying acts, who were livid at not being included.
Since we are looking at RBB Winterquarters, Dick, Rodry, and Billy were also depicted practicing there in the Durants' PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN CIRCUS.
I was not with Ringling in 56, but everyone here in Sarasota knows that the entrance was directly across from the end of 12th street on what was once called Oriente and now Beneva. There was a Begoda Japaneese style directly across the street from it that served beer, a treat for the workers as I do not believe it was served in the quarters. I also believe that where the bagoda was, that land had a small airplane.
airport. As you can see it was a little walk into the grounds to the buildings. You can see the parking lot up front. It is all now a villa and housing development called Glen Oaks. THey do have a memorial marker plaque erected at the main street entrance to Glen Oaks. Just a little south of there is the old Circus City Trailer Park, still in existance. Jackie LeClaire
The Circus City Trailer Park is also shown in the PICTORIAL HISTORY.
