What Jim refers to is Rosa Gibbs birthday party with Big Apple in which Bobby invited all nationalities to sing Happy Birthday in their native language. We got thru Spanish, German, Italian and even Arabic but despite Bobby's protests, the Chinese Troupe sang our Happy Birthday song with Chinese words.
Finally Bobby started yelling, No! No! No! Irving Berlin wrote that song! Six billion people and you don't even have a fuckin' Happy Birthday song?
Without a word they picked up their stuff and left.
Early next morning there was a knock on my trailer door, it was Paul Binder saying, "Well that buddy of yours nearly caused World War 111 last night. I got a call from the Chinese Consulate threatening to pull the act.
He eventually squared the beef.

Buckles,
Great stuff!!!! Bobby was always kind of like the puppy who shit's on the floor, or the kid who breaks the lamp. Then he becomes "your dog" or "your son". The circus tanked when we lost characters like Bobby. I hope folks like you and John Milton live forever to keep it afloat.

The best of Happy Birthdays to the Best Empress of the Elephants.

Today, I'm thinking back to first trouping with you on Uncle Sid Kellner's James Bros., in 1968. Buckles gave me my first ride on an elephant, and I made an entrance to the cage on beloved Anna May.
