Paul Jerome. Paul Jung always said that he thought Paul Jerome was one of the funniest clowns he ever knew. Unfortunatly, he had deep problems within him about his own self esteem. He went to Polack for possibly a season or so. My Dad even built and gave him some of his gags to do over there. He married quite late in life, but could not cope with his lack of confidence and ended up on the bottle. Dwane Thorpe, who admired and always respected Paul Jerome, said that one day Duame came out of the performers entrance of Mad. Sq. Garden and Paul was on the corner pan handleing money for drinks. Said it really broke his heart to see a clown of this great caliper allow himself to decline so in life., Paul just could never gain the confindence in himself that he so deserved. He was the first to do the neon lighted heart and also make the first neon lighted glasses. In those days, the batteries weighed a ton. He was, without question, one of the great clowns of that era. Jackie - Thank you for the correction and for your keen insight. I thought the picture might be a little old for Mark Anthony, but it definitely reminded me of him. ~frank

Somewhere, I read that Paul Jerome was buried in Arlington, and that Emmett Kelly was the only one to send flowers. I cannot find the notice, so perhaps Mr. LeClaire will know Jerome's birth name.

Gil Gray hired him at the end of his career. I believe old time clown Mickey MacDonald engineered that. He was a nice fellow in the dressing room with all of us. Quiet fellow. Never talked about his early times. He did come in using the mike and it was awful. He would get drunk in the morning on show day and was a mess. Too bad to see such a great career go down the tube. Gil was a drinking man and tried to keep him going but he just could not help himself. Note to Jackie-Was he known to drink when he was on RBBB?john herriott

Paul Jerome: I believe Roger is correct about Paul Jeromes Arlington Burial. If my memory is correct I and one other Fan in the D.C. attended Pauls Arilington Funeral....Find my good friend Jackie LeCaire comments interesting. Paul played some of the winter Orrin Davenport Shrine dates. First time I saw Paul was on RBBB at the old Mount St., Columbus,OH lot back in the 40's.
