Please comment--any elephant person! That elephant is just standing on the flatbed. Wouldn't some sort of wall been needed for transport?

Pretty good balance riding on an open flat bed! I bet she rocked the truck all over the road swaying?:)

I think the truck may have been hired to move the elephant back and forth from the train.

Perhaps a cardboard painted prop, peanut concession stand, ticket booth? Seems like the truck should be doing a wheelie. Perhaps this particular pachyderm pounced aboard to pilfer a performers personal packages.

Normally, on a rail show, the elephants would walk to and from the train.

Way back then it was not unusual for elephants in Australia on a truck show to travel on flat deck trucks without sides.

And yes, the trucks rock and rolled all over the road!

What a great truck commercial this would make. Thats one powerful flat bed,(the trunk not included.)

There is a photo of Tusko being moved on flat bed truck when Slim Lewis had charge of him after the bull left the Barnes show in the 1930s. I have a copy of it somewhere. I even think Slim mentions Tusko lashing out with his trunk at on coming traffic during that move in his book Elephant Tramp. There is a good photo of him on a flat bed trailer on page 132 of Lewis' book I Loved Rogues
