Coney Island Elephants-5, originally uploaded by bucklesw1. Early on, Luna Park had its own herd of performing elephants, supervised by Pete Barlow. During the winter season, these elephants appeared at the Hippodrome Theater as “Barlow’s Marvelous Hippodrome Elephants.” (Norman Clarke’s book THE MIGHTY HIPPODROME includes a rather lengthy and interesting account, telling how the elephants and other lead stock were moved from Luna Park to the Hippodrome Theater.)
