This beauiful young lady was a "class act" both in and out of the ring. A very nice person. Jack Ryan among others will recall so many fine turned out ladies to grace the Venice arena in those days. A far cry from the T shirt, blue jeans, ragged hair of our modern day showbiz lot. Seems like the Illucination gold unit features jeans and crappy no wardrobe. I still believe the American public wants to see some people that perform in an awesome atmosphere and no like the next door neighbor. Thank God for Dolly Parton and a hex on the redneck Cyrus klan. Nothin beats the finale of Chorus Line and the wonderful Radio City Rockettes [still a showstopper in Macys Parade, etc. I hate to see what is happening to our wonderful fantasy world of "SHOWBUSINESS". I always enjoyed appearing in a nicely tailored suit.
This photo of Evy Althoff reminds me just how the Ringling ladies of those days were dressed to the nines. Hair and make-up perfect. Then, when Don Foote took over the wardrobe, they looked even more lovely.
The non-aerial guys were either in well-fitting suits, tuxes or even white tie and tails. When you watched you felt you were "somewhere."
As Johnny says, who wants to pay to see somebody who looks like the folks down the street. The glamor -- the sequins and sparkles. That's what is missing today. Where's the magic?
Bless Dolly Parton. She keeps the grand show biz aura beautifully alive. So few do anymore.
Maybe it's just a cycle and things will return to the glamorous and beautiful. But don't count on it.
I must add that John Herriott was a class act as well.First time I ever saw him perform was 1972.It was in Melbourne,Fl. on Hoxie Brothers Circus. He was ringmaster and if memory serves me correct he did dressage. Johns wardobe was picture perfect.Actually the whole HOxie show was awesome that particular year. When I see a show of any kind I want to see the performers dressed to the nines period. It enhances the show and does nothing but add value to their craft.Clothes make the man or woman in live appearances. With ticket prices at all time high the least they can do is spend a few bucks on tailored costumes. JUlio Iglesias and Eddy Arnold always wore tuxedos.Mexican mariachi singer Vincente Fernandez appears in stunning traditional south of the border attire. Small wonder they can and did recieve the fees they charged. Sophistication includes the total package from good lighting, great sound system and visual appearance.
