From Eric Beheim #3

GSOE 3, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This scene showing Arky Scott and Lyle Bettger together reveals why Bettger was probably hired for the role of Klaus: his close resemblance to Arky (at least while in costume), allowed Arky to double for him during the long shots of the elephant act being presented.

I always thought Gloria was the best looking lady in the show. She was a Great Elephant Empress, not as good as Lady Barbara tho!

Another movie goof: In this scene, Lyle Bettger appears to be wearing a wedding ring although there is never any mention in the film about a Mrs. Klaus. (No doubt this ring is from the actor's private life, and someone forgot to remind him to take it off while filming.)

Towners always ask "Ginger or MaryAnn?"...Showguys always ask "Holly or Angel"...I always say "Angel"...Holly was/is a B**ch!..

The Foreign Legion attire is among my favorites for sharp wardrobe. As a veteran among unnoticed extras, I feel for the poor guy at Right who didn't get so well fitted out. But he's right there in the shot. Anyone know who he is?

Although actors are taught not to wear personal jewelry, Mr. Bettger may have been hard to separate from that ring. In spite of his usual casting as the villain, he was married to Mary Rolfe for 56 years, certainly one of Hollywood's happiest, ending only with her death.

In his inimitable manner, Flo White described Betty Hutton as "A thnippy, pristhy little misthy." Others agreed Dorothy Lamour, our Phyllis, was the most popular of the stars among showfolks.
