15 years later, I've just seen this picture and would put money on it that the man is Sumanadasa and the elephant is 'BiBi' from Columbo Zoo, Sri Lanka and later to Randall Moore in Botswana via a year at our place in South Africa.
I so miss the chat on this great blog!
