attain to join the Shriners

Yes it is but you can also become a Shriner by means of another Masonic Body, the York Rite or Order of Knights Templar, to which my father and I both traveled.
Yet I once heard him say, the Shrine should come just before Entered Apprentice rather than after Knights Templar.

Didn`t know you were a fellow Masonic Brother Buckles. I went Scottish Rite. My Dad had both Scottish and York Rites, he was also a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Now days you only have to be a Blue Lodge member to join the Shrine, I guess it`s the same there also.

My father was a Missouri Mason having received his instructions from a local barber in Lancaster.
He would walk up to his shop from Hall's place and wait patiently for non-Masonic customers to leave in order to be taught his lectures.
Later at the Louisville Quarters and under the sponsorship of Zack Terrell, he received his Scottish Rite degree with Col. Harry Thomas sitting in the East.
