B&B dog wagon, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Buckles,

On May 2 you posted a photo (#7) of the Barnum & Bailey dog wagon that generated questions about how the compartment doors by the rear wheel could be raised, if at all. Here’s a later photo of the dog wagon showing that at least one of those blocked doors could be opened. Note the wagon in the back left, likely also a dog wagon suggesting two on the show. In the photo shown May 2 there was a box at the rear and under the floor by the axle but none is shown here (a blogger suggested it would be for clean-out tools, food dishes, etc.). Possibly it was removed over time or was only on one of the dog wagons.

Thank you for answering the mystery of how the two back doors were opened on these wagons with the rear wheels blocking them from opening up. I had not seen this photo before, but you can see the second from last bottom door standing up against the rear wheel. These two back doors must have opened just far enough to slide them off their hinges.
Also note the gang plank in the grass at the back of the wagon for unloading the larger animals carried in these wagons.
