1936. Cole arrived by land and by sea. Jumbo II was formerly Safari at the Detroit zoo. He was thought to be unruly and a special wagon was made to house and haul him on the flats. It proved unnecessary. The show later staged a "wedding" for him for his good behavior. Unfortunately, he died a premature death. He gave a bit of feeling of the real Jumbo, who towered over the female Asiatics on Barnum & London 11 to 12 feet tall versus eight to nine feet tall].
