Buckles,
I keep finding photos....that's a surprise isn't it (lol). I'm mailing/emailing ones I come across that are of Ben mostly as in all likely hood Ben and Darlene got copies of.
The one I'm attaching here was scanned from a poorly done color print...very orangey, poor contrast. So on our poor little scanner I took the color out and tried to improve it. Paul
From Don Covington:
The Big Apple Circus, which has regularly performed in Rhode Island (last summer marked its 25th season in Charlestown’s Ninigret Park) will not be pitching a tent here this year.
The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce reports that the circus will not be making the trip in order to cut costs. In a note to chamber of commerce officials, the management of Big Apple Circus said, “The not-for-profit circus has not been immune from the national financial crisis, which has sent ticket sales plummeting this year, greatly decreased donations for our community outreach programs, and increased operating costs.”
The Big Apple Circus reports that it has already cut costs through layoffs, furloughs and wage reductions. Now it’s canceling some of its traveling shows.
“The chamber and the circus have had a supportive and beneficial relationship for 25 years,” said Kara Kayarian, president of the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors, in a news release. “We hope to see the circus return next year.” |

An experienced circus man could cut their nut in half and more, by getting rid of the waste and extravagance.
And it would not hurt the performance a bit.
I'm sure that there are several
experienced "circus men" that
would love to know your secrets
of circus success (and your name)
Chic,
You are right, if you know so damned much, why don't you sign your name?
Or, maybe you don't know so much, but like your comments picked apart by people like Chic who have been there and done it.
Bob Kitto
Yes Bob I did it but fortunately
they haven't caught up with me yet
so I'm still doing it
To Chic and Bob;
First of all,you two could not AFFORD my secrets.
Secondly, I'll give you a freebie.
a)Take a walk in their backyard.
b)Take a look at their front office overhead.
It is always better to think before you open your "damned" mouth.
P.T. Anonymous,
You have me excited. Did you really see "extravagance" someplace on the circus scene today? I suggest the "lack of extravagance" is what has hurt the "performance" the most. Far more then the commonly referenced alibi's.
