What a great photo of the Beatty Circus sidewalled. A beautiful day and a calliope with the band, Count Nicholas is ringmaster and looks like a full house. Also the great Clyde Beatty's cat shoot. I wish I had been there with my camera. Harry
I forgot to add the only thing missing here in the photo is Bubba Voss and Boom Boom Browning two real circus characters for sure but were great friends of mine. Harry
I still have the newspaper story my mother sent me about Bubba being home one winter, which featured his biography and his vast collection. We had some colorful gentlemen on that bandstand, among them my great friend, First Trumpeter Thomas Xavier Napoli. They were among the good guys on the lot.
Boom and I were fellow Texans. He was born in Taylor, and I was born in Tyler. We got along pretty good over there.
Boom gave me three of his drumsticks for souvenirs, right off the '64 Beatty show bandstand, and if you knew Boom, you know these drumsticks show use that lived up to his nickname.
Roger, Yes Bubba and Boom Boom were really something. Many stories that are priceless from both of these guys. Bubba lived about 15 miles from me and we had many great meals together. I have some of Bubba's great circus collection. Bubba gave me his Ringling 1955 band top rest chair which I doubt there are other's anywhere. I met Boom Boom through Bubba. He was really something. He would call me and scare the hell out of my wife with his tone of voice. Like D. R. Miller he had the stories. Bubba would tell me there adventures together. I too have some of Boom's drum sticks that are very well used. Real keep sakes from a great guy. Plus some of his tape recordings from that great Beatty Cole band. To see Boom Boom in action with his drums sticks just a going and about to catch on fire from all the action. Harry
Boom Boom used what are referred to a "street sticks", which are very heavy, plus he used them backwards which means that the larger end was what struck the drums. I always go a kick out of him. By the end of the show he had 1 cymbal, 1 snare and the base drum, the rest was already packed. Whoops, I forgot the cigar that sat on one of the drum cases, that was still there. Another thing was, if you went out to eat with him, the first thing he did was dump his false teeth in the water glass. UGH! Bob Kitto

Good heavens, you could have shown me pictures all day. Every time I see that tunnel, I feel my fingers threatened and my knuckles cracking.
