Bandleader Charles Schlarbaum has the library from one of the early Sells bandleaders, perhaps the oldest extant collection of such materials. He's recorded just one of the numbers, long ago on the Toby Tyler Circus LP. Maybe with some encouragement and support[!] he could assemble a band, cut a CD and we'd all hear what "old time" circus music sounded like.
In the mean time, thanks to Richard Whitmarsh and his methodical production of an endless number of great circus music recordings. There's nothing else like them. With high endorsement, here's a link: http://www.euchronia.net/sotc/
