The November 1932 issue of MODERN MECHANIX AND INVENTIONS included an article titled “Modernized Circus Offers New Field for Inventions”and which was largely devoted to describing mechanical innovations developed by W. H. Curtiss of the Sells-Floto Circus. Here Curtiss demonstrates “one of his contrivances . . . a chain and crosspiece arrangement that ties the seat jacks together, eliminating hundreds of stakes as well saving much time, labor, and money.” During an interview conducted at Peru winterquarters, Curtiss mentions that the circus is still looking for a suitable caterpillar tractor that can be used on both paved roadways and soft, muddy circus lots. |
