From Paul Ingrassia

I am very sorry to advise that our good friend and stellar circus friend, Dale Riker died in a Austin, Texas hospital today around 1:00 p.m. He was surrounded by his family and died peacefully. The cause of his demise was apparently cancer that had been undetected, likely with the symptoms masked by other of his health problems. I talked to him two days ago and he asked that Jerry Hogan do a service, that a reception be held at Showfolks and that I write something about him. I told him I loved him and thanked him for the many good times we, he and I and Evelyn, have had over the forty plus years we have been friends. He actually said, "I guess I'll see you down the road."
Jerry Hogan talked to Dale's daughter Penny who said that they will have a private family service in Austin and cremate the remains and return them to Sarasota. They are thinking of a memorial service then. I will report more to you when I know.
Good Bye old friend. Rest in Peace....Paul Ingrassia

I remember Dale visiting the Kaleidoscape build-up in Sarasota, when he brought me one of his circus ties, which I have treasured. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends. He was truly a gentleman, and our brief visits at circus events will remain in my memory forever.

Sincerely,
Brian

Very sad. Our heart felt sympathy goes out to Evelyn and the Ricker family. A wonderful member of our Sarasota circus scene and interest6ed in all aspects of our American circus. A great member of our club and all its ativities. Always a joy to cut up jackpots at the bar. One of the great of a long line of Michigan fans and liked t recall the great Polack and Hanneford winter shows in Flint and the Detroit Shrine. Always lots of tent shows in Michigan and he saw them all. Never failed to show up a any circus activity in our area. I am pleased to know that he was a good friend and will sure miss him. Being a retred Judge was always fun in getting his comments on social issues. Very knowledgeable in events and a great sports fan. Dale enjoyed a full life and certainly his family above all. What a fine fellow and one of the "good guys" So long dear friend we will certainly miss and remember you. Johnny, Mary Ruth and the whole family including Verinica and Brianna.

The "juge" (that's how he signed e-mails) was a great friend. I first met Dale and Evelyn in Baraboo before boarding the Circus Train bound for Milwaukee's parade many years ago. I enjoyed my friendship with them since the early 1960's. Dale was one of the best and my heart goes out to Evelyn.

Myy prayers go out to all of the extended family of circus folks and fans that were so fortunate to know Judge Riker. On my days in Flint and Saginaw and Detroit, Judge Riker always seemed to be there when you needed something just as he and Ms Riker always seemed to show up no mater where you were and already had whatever it was you needed.

A great historian of our industry and a great supporter of our art and craft, Judge Riker was above all else a true friend of the American Circus.

Let us all join in celebrating the life of this great supporter of the American Circus and a lifelong friend to all of us.
