From Jim Cole

The other day there were quite a few comments about the Hunt Bros. Circus liberty horse act. Here is a photo that is copied from a 35 mm color slide of that act on Ringling in 1970 being presented by Mary Ruth Herriott. Jimmy Cole

From Buckles
What a great picture. I have told the story many times about 1954 when The King Show elephants had to make the Texas dates and our family elephant act and Freddy Logan with three more finished out last month of the season, Johnny and Bert Pettus had already left the night before we arrived.
Strangely enough I had never met Johnny, I remember his dad well from the Cole Show but our paths had never crossed. He and Mary Ruth were engaged at the time but she had remained behind to work some stock on the show. One day we were showing near Houston and I see this couple walking hand in hand across the lot and Mary Ruth introduced us, a friendship that has lasted for 55 years.
Johnny and I had originally planned flying up to Milwaukee together this week for the parade but one of my recent heart tests (the one you have to remain wired up for 24 hours) didn't work out so I have to remain available for an alternate test to be done up in Brandon. This one, ink is injected into your blood system, an alternate way to X-Ray the heart. I'm sure all of this is just precautionary since I've never felt better and definitely plan attending next year's parade.

While I am rambling on, I might add that I received an invitation from Jamie Adkins (of whom Bud Copeland spoke so highly) to attend one of his performances at the Ringling Museum. I must take him up on this offer, particularly since during our recent house rearranging, Barbara came across the head piece for her Don Foote Spec costume they have there on display and while I'm at it I'll toss in my purple menage uniform if they want it.

Great News on the heart front! I'm sure that everything will go as smoothly as all of the other tests! I just celebrated my second birthday from open heart surgery and all of the tests came back that the heart is in perfect condition! I'm sure the Museum will welcome the addition of the head piece and maybe they'll even do a couples set with your Menage costume! ~frank

Buckles, I am sad you will not be in Milwaukee. I was planning on a visit. But then, health is much more important!

Until the next time...

All the best,

Brian

Buckles, I'm really sorry you won't be in Milwaukee. Seeing you is always a treat. Plus, my CHS talk will include stuff about Ringling in the 70s, and I figured you'd be great to fill in the gaps and correct the mistakes. Now I'll have to blunder along on my own. See you next year. Dave

Good luck, Buckles. I'm about to go for a myorcardial perfusion heart test, which will make me glow in the dark. We gotta snap outta this kind of crap.

Is "Snap Out" really a good term when talking about this stuff? Good health to all! ~frank
