There's an excellent article about phone promoters by Mike Straka in the new Bandwagon.

Mike talks about M E Van Dorsten, a legend in that end of the biz, and mentions that he didn't know Van's first name.

It was Melvin.

Melvin E Van Dorsten.

dave, like you said, van was a true legend, unquestionably one of the best phone promoters of that era. always a class act. every town that he promoted that i knew of was a winner; he could squeeze money out of nowhere. and i always looked forward to seeing him because it was always so great visiting with him and grace. they were special people in their field that i will never forget.
