From Erin #2

circus pics 4, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This is the old elephant barn at the winter headquarters. It is built halfway into the hillside, partly for warmth and partly to better contain the large animals.

It hasn't been remarked on yet but the lion's head carving sure looks like some of the more ornate, often European style, parade wagons of the 1860s-70s. I've got a lot view of JR 1886 that has the faintest of suggestions for something like this but I sure wouldn't make the leap to say it is. The mammoth carving, however, doesn't necessarily suggest a circus wagon but reminds me of what Jungleland did with an elephant carving!
