The men walking next to Gunther is Peter Kohnen, also known as Luxemburger. He worked for Gunther for over 30 years. Behind that is me, I can remember this Helmets very well.

The helmets reminded me of some very early photos that Buckles posted a few days ago of Barnum & Bailey show around the turn of last century. ~frank

Didn't Peter Kohnen butcher the meat for the tigers?

He did, so did Werner Edling and I did it when necessary. I was the first one to arrive in Venice Winterquartier after we came of the ship from Germany with the Tigers and Manfred Doval was there building the rigging for the Blue Show. Since I could not speak any English he was my translator to Mr. Steel and I ask for meat and a knife so I could feed the cats.
So Mr. Steel send Manfred and I to the hardware store in Venice and I got a Hacksaw and a Hunter knife and it took me forever to cut up the meat every day until the trucks arrived with all our equipment. It was most likely the worst butcher't meat ever.

Henry,

Hard to imagine you didn't speak English.

When I first met you in 1968, you were cussing with the best of 'em!

My first girl friend on the show was french, she was a bit older than me and taught me English with a french accent, so in the beginning a lot of people thought I was french.
