Beatty-Russell Bros. 1944 #2

Scan11679, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

At the same time, Mr. Beatty's three elephants "Mary", "Sidney" and "Anna May" were under the direction of Bert Pettus as seen here with one of Bert's sons, either Tommy or Lee Powell Pettus.

There was also a 9th elephant on the show "Lucy" whose owner Jack Joyce had been drafted into the Army and she was in limbo until sold to Dailey Bros. the next season.

Was this the same Anna May

and was this the Sid that I

remember from the Beatty Show

in the early 60s

Aside from Sid I recall the

3 oldest elephants were Kate

Maude & Helen that worked an

end ring together

Yes they are the same. Of course our "Anna May" was named after this elephant fifteen years later.
"Maude" was among the elephants imported by Ben Davenport in 1947.
And "Helen", "Kate" and "Ola" were imported and delivered to the Don Franklin Carnival in 1958.

BUCKLES;
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO "KATE"? I do remember, Freddie Logan saying, OLA"S death was INEXCUSEABLE!

I don't know what became of "Kate".
The last year I have her listed on the show is 1973.

Freddie had Katie run away from him at Deland once. She had been on the M A Miller shopping center show before coming first to Sells and Gray and then Beatty-Cole.
