Mark et al - - The Coney Island Show is the so-called Gold Unit which moves overland by trucks and is a one ring presentation usually in smaller venues. I've seen it twice in earlier years, and it is a good show. The Coney Island stand is said to be preliminary to shipping it to Italy for a fall tour. That will be challenging because there are some splendid Italian circuses, dominated by the Casartelli, Orfei and Togni families with scads of exotic animal acts, including one of trained elands in a liberty act like horses - -that was maybe ten years ago however.

Whatever, the competition will be stiff. Above is a sample of what can be seen on Circo Medrano.

I work in Coney Island and very much look forward to Ringling's Gold Show coming here for the summer. A few days ago there was an article in the NY Times City Room blog about Ringling coming to Coney Island. Sadly the majority of comments on the blog are anti-Ringling and anti-circus. It would be helpful if people who know and love the circus and the Gold Show would add comments. You do not have to sign up to comment,
Thank you!
