Very interesting paper- the better-sighted-than-I will be able to read the Barnes-Sells-Floto title in small letters above the more imposing RBBB title.
The line about New Features at the bottom also dates this as 1938.
On an unrelated topic: Someone wrote in to our local morning wrapper to point out that a certain state university to my south is not OLD Miss but OLE Miss.
Likewise the undersigned is not OLD Whitey- even though I remember Pearl Harbor and will never see another birthday starting with a 6.
It's OLE as in the expression, "How's Ole Whitey these days?" or possibly, "I wonder if Ole Whitey's still above the sod?"
Dave, tell me if I am right or not since this is 1938 and in Florida with WAIT paper against Robbins Bros Circus newly enlarged after Cole closed with the one the only CLLYDE BEATTY and HOOT GIBSON. Where I would have loved to have caught them was Lakeland, were in the Bandwagon mag. it sai they had a battle royal covering each others paper etc. I would have gone to both circuses plus got the posters for my collection and met all the stars and took Clyde and Harriet for a cat fish dinner on me. Man those were the days. Harry
BOTH Robbins Bros with Clyde Beatty and Barnes-Sells-Floto with RBBB Features played here that fall and to my everlasting regret I did not crawl out of my crib and catch these two outstanding performances.
Robbins was the last rail show to parade here.
They beat BSF/RBBB in here by nearly two months and I have no idea if WAIT paper was used. As you observed even though Robbins was in Tampa on October 7th, a month and a half before BSF/RBBB, this billboard tells the story.
Dave, thank you as always for your great comments on these two great circuses struggling to make the nut in 1938 after a disasterous season when many just shut down. Well one day when i get to heaven I will at the pearly gates shouting get your program to heaven you cannot enter without one. And when they give me a break selling programs. I plan on seeing these great shows of the past and the first one on my list is Cole Beatty of 1937 at Goose Creek, Texas, then Robbins 1938, Barnes-Sells Floto 1938 and many more. I want to take Clyde fisihng at Galveston, Zack and Jess out to eat, along with many more. If they can take a person to teh moon why can't we go back and see some old circus of the past. Well we can dream any way. Harry
