Al G. Barnes Tuskers #6

Scan11025, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Bloomer English and "Tusko" making the march from the cars to the lot.
The chain in front is to pull him ahead in case he should balk and the drag chain is attached to a following elephant.
This seems like a harsh existence but the public of the day thought otherwise paid a lot of money to witness this.

Buckles,
What an incredible rig, on Tusko. It took some ingenuity to take care of all the "trouble areas." The ring on the tusks is most ingenious. Where was the chain attached? I can't seem to tell in the photos. I assume it was to keep his head/tusks from going down, after he had knocked you off your feet. If he was as tough as he seems to be, do you know how/who had to get all that iron on him.

No idea what part the bale ring played but the chains from the tusks to his ankles prevents him from giving you an uppercut.
However my dad explained that he might lift one foot and fetch you a cheeky whollop sideways.

Buckles,
"Cheeky wallop?" Is that the same thing as "slapping the snot out of you?" Who would even want to get out of bed each morning, knowing you had to start your day by giving Tusko a drink of water.

I almost cpmmented on the photo #5 but I see you have already posted your dad's comment. They can get you with the back feet, kicking sideways. Sue on C&B was very good at this.
