This poster may well have been saved by circus fan A.L. Chumley, an early circus collector, photographer, and dealer who lived in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from the 1920s through the 1940s. Earlier, Chumley was living in Birmingham, Alabama. His big acquisition was the pioneer collection of Billy Allee of St. Joseph, Missouri, who gathered his material back in the 1880s. There is a disproportionate number of surviving posters with Chattanooga date tails and heralds for St. Joseph because of these two collectors.
