That’s giraffe man Andrew Zingraben (1861 – 1931) with the four giraffes Barnum & Bailey had in the years shortly after it returned from Europe.

Zingraben was born in Hungary and became a Hagenbeck animal man. He joined B&B during its European tour and came back here with the show when it returned to the USA in late 1902. He was the first to regularly breed giraffes on circuses.

Zingraben was the giraffe man on RBBB. He died in September 1931 shortly after the circus returned to Sarasota quarters. When he died one of his female giraffes was pregnant and gave birth at Harrisburg , PA in 1932. They named the calf “Andy” after Zingraben.
