Antje arrived at Hagenbeck's famed Animal Park, Hamburg on Nov 10, 1976. She was acquired through the central Soviet Russian animal dealership in Moscow. She had the all time longest tusks of any captive walrus, and was the most popular animal at the zoo. She died on July 17, 2003, after 26 years and 8 months at Hagenbeck's - -the world longevity record for a captive walrus. [Photo from Herman Reichenbach, Hamburg]
