Jim Ragona's spec costume from the 116th Edition designed by Arthur Boccia. I never saw him wear the mask.

Yes he wore the mask, when he made his entrance standing on the platform on the back of the elephant. When he sang it was removed for obvious reasons. J. Ragona was one of the best, and is definitely on the list of All Time Great RBBB Ringmasters.

Jim is a great guy and, second only to Harold Ronk, the best ringmaster of the Feld era in my opinion. And, apparently, on the receiving end of many practical coming from Clown Alley during his years with the show...if the stories around the dinner table at the Clown College reunion are reliable! His name came up quite often and in spite of the hard time the clowns gave the man it's clear that they hold him in very high regard.
