Max Welde Wardrobe 1969 (From Sue Lenz)

1969, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hi Buckles:
So pleased that there was interest in Don Foote's sketches that I sent to you recently.

I thought I would send you pictures of the SPEC costumes that I wore from 1969 until 1980.

The costumes from 1969 and 1970 were designed by Max Welde .
From 1971 to 1980 were designed by Don Foote.
Kindest regards.
Sue

Thanks, Sue for sharing some great memories of the past.

Max made beautiful costumes. How about regaling us with stories/rumors about his "pleasure palace" upstairs over the magic shop? I understand, a must do for many top British Artists.

In addition to the name, the "Greatest Show on Earth," and the thrilling Olympics-exceeding ring acts, through the North and early Feld eras RBBB became known for having luxuriant wardrobe supporting spec and production numbers. They were sumptuous, grand, beautiful and dazzling undertakings, equal to any Las Vegas or Broadway ensembles, something of a revival and an adaption of the great specs of the 1891-1918 era. RBBB became known as much for their "floor shows" as the circus acts, in the public mind. Could it be that dropping those tremendous presentations, with their substantial expense, had as much to do with the falling interest in the "brand" as the change in the audience as it moved into the digital era? When you think of how many billions TV viewers tuned into the Beijing Olympics opening and closing ceremonies [850,000,000 in China alone], maybe there's still interest in the grand pageants? You just don't see them everywhere today.

Sue and Rudi--
That is the truck you brought from Europe, yes?

Yes Mike: That truck was a Dutch DAF. Later we had the body put on to a Chevrolet.
