From Bill Strong

parade, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Any ideas on this one? On back it says Chas L. Franck photographers, New Orleans, but I'm sure that's who made the 4 copies that I have.

Isn't this the picture that Joe Heiser identified as Houston, Texas?

This is New Orleans, Canal Street, as a comparison to other photos of the setting on-line confirms. The street cars also confirm the site.

This is either a Sells-Floto or Hagenbeck-Wallace parade, cage on the right edge, followed by the Sells-Floto tableau featuring an elephant [later on HW and now preserved at the Ringling Museum].

I'd bet that a search of back issues of White Tops would reveal an enjoyable Joe Bradbury article that provides additional information on this well-attended event.

There is definitly a Corporation cage making the turn. It appears to be the Al G. Barnes Elephant Tab follwing that.

You are looking at Hagenbeck-Wallace in New Orleans on 10-28-1933.
This is the 700 block of Canel street looking northwest from the corner of St.Charles Ave.
Group of 5 photos taken that day in the Historic New Orleans Collection.

This is Canal street in New Orleans. The "Holmes" sign is the D.H. Holmes dept. store and clock across the street is the old Whitney bank building. We also see the ever present "Streetcar"(trolley) that still runs through parts of the city today

I should add that the wagons are turning off Canal Street and onto St. Charles Ave.

This picture was without doubt taken on Canal Street in New Orleans.

If you look closely you can see Blanche Du Bois peering out of the street car window.

Needless to say, circus day last week bore no resemblance. Progress.
