Lee Powell-The Lone Ranger (From Eric Beheim)

Lone Ranger 2, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Hi Buckles,

In honor of Lee Powell’s 100th birthday on May 15th, I’m submitting scans of some Lee Powell film memorabilia. To start off, here are a poster and 2 lobby cards from THE LONE RANGER. I don’t believe that this one is legally available any more. The people who own the Lone Ranger franchise only allowed Republic Pictures to distribute this serial for a limited amount of time. After that, the prints and negatives were supposed to have been destroyed. (But I’m sure that somewhere, someone has a complete print with all 15 chapters, so maybe someday it will resurface.) Back in the mid-1970s, a few chapters with Spanish subtitles were located in South America. Dupe prints were made up from these, and I actually saw Chapters 1 and 2 at a film fans convention. (Since it had a very high budget for a serial, it was done on a grand scale – almost like a DeMille picture.) Incidentally, Republic made some of the serial’s original music cues available for use in the Lone Ranger radio show, and these can be heard in programs produced during the late 1930s.
