I recall Mac Macdonald telling me that he was a bull hand under Deafy Denman on Ringling. Now I wish I would have asked him more about him. Mac had quite a career as well. Big show, mud shows, Building shows, he did it all.Certainly Buckles knew him better than any of us.

Great set of photos about quite a showguy. Must have been one hell of a dept. head and a fine elephant man. All those years and with such a large herd. Guess he would be the "All time great".

Buckles; Where did he live and then die in retirement and where would he be buried. Hope you have that info. Would he be in that Baraboo cemetary with Jimmy Whalen and others?

There was an elephant historian named Charles Davis that was close to Denman.
I seem to recall that in his letters to my dad he mentioned that Denman got sick while on the 1933 tour and went to Bridgeport where he died in 1937.
I'll have to look that up.

Buckles,
Would you have any records, that you may have compiled while you were here in Baraboo, of who is buried where in Baraboo cemetary's?
i know it sounds kind of morbid to ask, but as I start to slow down, abit, I would like to keep track of these sites, and make sure they are properly maintained. Please advise!
Also, if anyone else has any knowledge of said request, please advise here, and/or I'll send you my personal email address.
Thanks!

Funny you should mention that, just the other day when having dinner at the Cheesecake Factory with Randy, Steve, Shannon and Dalilah, that subject came up.
They said that when friends came to visit us in Baraboo, one of the highlights of the tour was a drive thru the cemetery.
Shannon said that he and Dalilah had everything memorized and would mouth my monologue from the back seat as we moved from tombstone to tombstone.
Today the only thing I remember is the Al Ringling mausoleum.

Okay, Buckles!
Load up Shannon & Dalilah in the back seat of your car, go to a local cemetary, pretend it's in Baraboo, visualize the Ringling mauseleum, and start talking, plus have a recording device going! I'm sure the 2 of them can help you fill in any "blanks", if you miss a headstone!!! Things that get indelibly etched in our memories NEVER go away!
Please advise as to the outcome of stuffing(willingly/unwillingly) of S&D. I'll even spring for the burgers and beers, if it'll help jog anybody's memory! Prior to, or after, the tour, whichever works best!

Buckles,
I can imagine you had the talkers' spiel for the sideshow memorized when you were on the different circuses over the years. It was just like my daughter Amy and son Bob along with Amys' boy friend John watching Christmas Story and knowing the dialog by heart. Kids are like that.

Buckles...Please record the Talkers spiels Also...Or Better yet....I'll send you my route...and you can talk the Front while I steal err record your lines....Of course 5% to 10% of your turn will be paid to you under the table/in cash!!!.....Jim Zajicek (Fellow SS Orator)

For the first couple of years at CWM they had a jeep pulled tour trailer that would give visitors a free narrated ride thru BarABOO INcluding the cemetary and the narrater would note the Ringling people buried there. Employees and family. As attendance grew each year the ride schedule could not handle the number of people. Would be interesting to know what that spiel was. I think either Chappie or Paul Luckey put it together.

Col. Herriott,
Was duly informed, by reliable sources, that there does exist a compilation of Paul Luckey's records on the "Who's Who" buried where, too! I am to receive a copy of said info, in the not too distant future! I will begin compiling a futher list, from several sources (hopefully), and will be making my findings public, probably next Fall, when I really have time to "put it all together".
My main purpose is to make sure that all gravesites/headstones are taken care of, and proper recording is in order in case something should happen to the site. A picture IS worth a thousand words, especially if you have to replace a headstone!
If you have any recollections please feel free to email me directly with them, and any ensuing stories that would be associated! Credit will be given to all who divulge sites, stories, etc!
