A comment made to Trudy years ago by a producer regarding booking her Liberty Act, "we really don't need it, we have a Dog Act with a Pony". Who can figure????
Anonymous, You will note in todays pictures of Bailey Bros. Christiani Circus 1954, a pony act, and an elephant with a dog 3 ring display. You should be thrilled at Ringlings efforts to return to the "good old days." I do agree though. The pony drill, and the small cage act look pretty lonesome in the middle of the garden.
24 hr. man, I bet that producer would give anything for a liberty act now. He might be the same one begging for a cage act, any cage act. It odd how they expected you to work for nothing, and then wait until they needed you again. When it all went away, it's Peta's fault. Pretty misguided, were they not. Wade Burck
I agree with anonymous--Jenny Vidbel did a good job with the ponies-12 of them in all! However, it would be great if they would keep her on and give her some full size horses to train for the next tour. Although the pony act is very cute, it is not as commanding as a full fledged liberty act--I miss the Lippizans and Arabs (from the red unit of yester-year.) Overall, I was pleased with the quality of the show--it seems as thought they are listening to their critics (return of the tigers, much better elephant display, liberty act, recreated old Ringling posters lining the proscenium, etc.) -Chris

Jenny Vidbel presents a very pleasant pony drill.
This is to the management: a pony drill does not compare with three rings of liberty horses in Madison Square Garden.
This is downsizing at it's most obvious.
How soon is the day when the only animal acts on Ringling will be an elephant and a dog and pony act?
