Note the "long pole" bull hands.

Handy when standing in a wagon rut at night in the rain on a muddy lot and reaching for the hook on the end of the chain.

Hey Anonymo, when working harness bulls at anytime and especially on those cold, rainey nights it was best to have a cane hook that you could hang on the side of the big nharness ring, and 9incidentally the hook when not being used was run up the chain and hung up on that swame harness ring until the next pull. Those canes and long poles were both avai8lable from Hope, Arkansas and maybe still are. You must be older than me to have pulled wagons in the mud. For forty some years I been pulling Chevies, GMC, International, Kenworth and such. us

FyI. You can't get that fine hicory from Hope any more. It went the way of fine leather lashes and the dinosaur's. Listen to me talking about the good old day.

Col. I haven't been lucky enough to pull a wagon off a muddy lot either, just explaining the reason for the cane.
I think you can still purchase the long stock canes at most big farm and ranch stores. See alot of them used at the livestock show here in Houston.
keep up the good work,
