This photo does not do real justice to the magnificent formations known as Vasquez Rocks. I pass them 27 miles South of Lancaster, on California 14, on the way "down below" to LA and the studios. They are featured in countless Westerns, at least one TARZAN, and Trekkies will remember them from STAR TREK. These massive rocks were forcefully slanted in a Northwesterly direction by earthquakes, and were so named for being among the hiding places of the notorious bandit Tiburcio Vasquez (1835-1875).
We often had the pleasure of visits from Monte Montana around Thousand Oaks. He always appeared in his finest Hollywood wardrobe, as stylish as Roy Rogers, and was a top Western showman in every respect.

Hi Roger,
You are right! That photo doesn't do justice to the rock formations! I just sent Buckles two more photos that give a better idea of how things looked in 1980.... but there's no substitute for actually being there and "soaking it all in" in person. A better camera would have been nice too. :-^)
Sincerely,
Jeff Darnell
