Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it was Mae West who gave Billy the name "Mr Sensation"

Bill,

Yes, you are correct and BILLY never let ANYBODY forget it!

Wasn't it Prince Navez at one time or another?

The audience may not have understood WHAT they saw, but they knew they saw SOMETHING when Billy did the fireworks finale.

Hi to Trudy!

I'm believe 24h-m is correct, but I would add that I made 2 prints of this photo. Billy autographed the second one for us and signed it, "Mr.Sinsation".

Mike, I'm looking for a photo of the fireworks finale.

The name Prince Najvez(sp?) was when he used an Aztec theme.
The finish break-away was announced as, "The flight of the Golden Eagle", once George Hubler announced it as "The Flight of the Golden Goose", needless to say, Billy was not amused.

In I'M NO ANGEL(1933), Mae West played a lion trainer. Mabel Stark must have been on hand as a technical advisor or to double her for some of the trickier scenes since Mae once revealed in an interview that, if she could trade places with any other woman, it would be Mabel Stark.

Mabel was on this picture, as Eric notes, as both double and advisor. Mae visited Mabel on the lots and had photos taken. Mae once said she would like to be like Mabel, to which Mabel replied, "Great. We'll switch places. I'd like to be Mae West."

As circus lovers and big Mae West fans we'd like to thank you fellows for the Mae/Mabel info...if only we could have been on the lot.

I had a tape of old radio shows that I would listen to while driving over the road.

This one episode was The Edgar Bergen and Charley McCarthy Show with special guest star, Mae West.

Mae to Charley, "Charles, I remember our date and I have the splinters to prove it."

Does anyone know anything about Tony Conway? I believe he was a Ringling Bros. ringmaster but I don't know much else about him. His first wife was Claire Fawcett who wrote a book called "We Fell in Love with the Circus." Thank you.
