Barnum & Bailey #4 (date unknown)

Scan000010815, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

There are a lot of pictures of the bearded gentleman seated at right whom at first I mistook for James A. Bailey but in actuality is the show's Superintendent Frank Hyatt.
Bailey it seems, was camera shy.

Some pretty hefty prices on the resereved seats for their day!

Did the Feld family go back this far with the show?

The FELD EMPIRE have been in control since 68; that's why Kenny only has $800 million. Had they been in control since the early 1900's they would have purchased everything west of the Mississipi and our great Golden State would be known as Kenny-fornia.

Any illegals bouncing over the border into Kenny-fornia would be offered jobs as Globe Riders or Concession Help.

Hey tax box,
I'm not questioning your figures. But what I am having a problem with is your sources of, "integrity and reputation being beyond reproach." Have you ran these figures past Monte Carlo Festival officials yet? When the gold standard of "integrity and reputation beyond reproach" audit's you, let us know.

P.S. When you have a minute, calculate Buckles Woodcock 1973 X 37 years and let us know. $800 million may not cover payroll.

I was told by another producer, who is considered a pretty smart cookie, that the new format has cut the nut by 75%!

Wade, Just Out of curiosity, what does the "G" stand for?

Jimmy,
Thanks for asking. Some don't ask, they just assume it is Greatest. Truth be told, it is Grimaldi, in honor of my late father the Prince.
Prince Wade Grimaldi Burck(now that it's out in the open)

24 hour man,
No disrespect, but you are going to have to be more "specific" with your clue's if we are going to guess right. "Producer who is considered a pretty smart cookie", is way to broad. Narrow it down, please.

The "G" in Wade G. Burck stands for GUILTY.

Wow, BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO, is way more then I expected. A simple thank you would have sufficed, Nicole.

The slightly rotund gent talking to the lady may be Charles Hutchinson. He was nephew to Bailey and lasted as the show's treasurer well into the era of the combined shows. Frank Hyatt, who was on the Van Amburgh wagon show for many years until he connected with Bailey in the late 1870s, retired at the end of the Bailey era (thus helping to date this photo).

Mr. Woodcock,
Don't let that money clip fool you. I just use it to hold receipt's together.

Mr. WGB,

What time of the day do you train? It seems that you are on this blog every minute.

I thought the "G" was for "glorious".

Anonymous said...

Wade, Gardner is it? ....The last name of America's first documented circus performer (Christopher Gardner). He worked with horses back in 1774. Made himself very well known in the local press.

Might you be related?

Cracked Nuts,
I don't, just ask some of the
"expert's" lurking around. And yes, "glorious" would have been appropriate.

WGB (sorry Mr. Gebel, I know I haven't earned it. It's Cracked Nut's fault, they put the notion in my unworthy head)

Jimmy Cole,
Thank you. I wondered how long it was going to take you to realize that. A pretty deep "root" in this townie's family tree, don't you agree. Not at all like that "through marriage" graft on the Cole side in Mr. Woodcock's pedigree.
In a rare upset moment, during my horse training apprenticeship, Col. Herriott, while giving me a motivational talk said, "you don't train horse's worth a damn, kid. Not like my good friend Christopher Gardner, who was one of the best I ever knew." That's when I researched, and discovered the connection. I also think Mr. Gardner and Col. Herriott did some work for Phillip Ashley.

Jimmy Cole,
You are correct. Great job of researching. Not bad root's for a townie, right. I didn't realize it, in fact had never heard the name Christopher Gardner until the mid 90's when I was serving my horse training apprentiship under our mutual friend the illustrious Col. John Herriott. One day, in a rare outburst of emotion, the respected Col. gave me this motivational speech. "You can't train horses worth a damn, kid. Not like my good friend, Christopher Gardner. Now there was a by God horseman."
In checking my mother's family bible, there it was. The connection to Christopher Gardner. I had always know that the good Col. has had a long and wonderful career. I didn't realize how long until I researshed further. Apparently the Col. and Christopher Gardner did some work for Philip Ashley.
