The comic strip reminds me of a Jules Jacot story: After his shows at the St. Louis Zoo, Jules would stand on the porch in front of the Arena to accept the accolades of his audience. Even though he worked at the Zoo he didn't have much respect for most zoo people (unless they would go visit shows with him). Every once in a while a youngster would ask him if he knew Marlin Perkins? "Yes I do", he would answer. "Do you want to know as much about animals as Mr. Perkins," Jules would ask. After the kid's postive reply Jules would say, "read Mark Trail in the funny papers, that's were he learned everything."

Tonight on the way home we saw a hawk on the ground with his victim. It was either a medium sized rabbit or a very large squirrel. He eats it all, not what the usda says he can eat. I hope they don't catch him and put him on a diet that they think he should have.

Sometimes I command my dog Jaxi: “Jaxi down Stretch out.” I have about the same luck with her as I did on the ride with George.
