I find these pictures and memories of Anderson, SC very interesting. For almost ten years I use to open Marketing on the Hanneford just after the fair. As with the case after the Shrine dropped a town Tommy would book the venue and send me in to market the date. HEJAZ Shrine out of Greenville use to handle the date..Numbers fell off and they dropped Anderson. Tommy signed the date and each year right after the Fair closed I would open the town..Not an easy job. Especially in Anderson. Well, the first couple of years I use to wramp the lines waiting to get in around the building. One thing I had to teach Tommy on booking the fall Anderson date is don't go head on with Clemson football the year Clemson plays a South Carolina home game... Jimmy Strates still own the grounds and down through the years have done an excellent job upgrading the grounds and promoting events year around..Yes, I remember the Herriott Family Circus coming in. I remember telling John that I had to open up right after they left town. John just laughed, said you really have your work cut out. Strates use to send in their railroad show in the spring and fall. Now I don't believe he uses the railroad show on the Anderson grounds in the spring. Great Show town..From Anderson I would head for the Greater Atlanta area for Tommy. And yes Tommy, Hanneford Circus is on the MARQUEE.
