Artu (From Raffaele de Ritis)

Artu, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

This is Artu, the male in a couple of white lions recently purchased by
Circo Moira Orfei.
They are actually under the cares of Stefano Nones-Orfei, David Chipperfield
and Ruby Merzari (in the picture), togheter with 25 tigers that they trains
while on tour in three large steel arenas in the menagerie.
I just saw them, they are all gorgeous and taken care of in wonderful
conditions.
The show actually features a 6-tigers act presented by Stefano (and
alternately by his father Walter Nones), the same that won a Monte Carlo
Silver Clown three years ago.

Out of curiosity, I need to ask. The purpose of hauling 25 tigers to use 6 is? Will they be combined for one large act, or for 3 act's as they are utilizing 3 arenas? Wade Burck

For Wade:
they are working on new act ideas, because they want to update the current 6-tigers with something different. They are a one-ring show anyway, but they switch on two different acts according the evenings, if in the cage is Stefano Nones or his father Walter. I have no idea of how many tigers the new act will be consisting. It probably will include the two white lions. Another reason for many tigers is that they have "understudies" for the current act: for exemple, they have two different tigers going on the motorcycle, two different for the swinging platform trick etc. Mr.Nones explained me that they switch sometimes the tiger for those tricks when some are nervous etc.
They also have a new female trainer that is starting, and
Another reason can be an investment purpose: in recent years italian circuses tends to produce animal acts to rent in other European circuses.
I agree that 25 cats is quite a lot to tour with, especially those times. I think that the only circus with a group larger than that is Pinder in France, that travels with about 50 tigers in the menagerie all the year round.
